Waiting...not so patiently

The first of August- that is when our insurance company is sending out yet another claims adjuster. This time they are sending out their "Catastrophe Claims Adjuster" because they want yet another set of eyes to look at the roof.

It doesn't seem to matter that the last adjuster they sent out told us that if we could prove we had no roof decking he would replace the roof; because we now know, beyond a shadow of doubt, that we have no roof decking. Our insurance guy claims that said adjuster made no sort of comments like that to him. Yeah right!

This is beyond ridiculous at this point in time and the fact that they are making us wait until August just angers me that much more (that is putting it mildly). Having made our claim in August of 2007, you would think that they would try and speed things along a little more than this.

On top of that wonderful news, I have been told by my husband that we are at a standstill with any other projects regarding this house until the roof is taken care of...at this rate, that could be for another year - or 10.

A hail storm recently introduced us to the whole world of claims adjusters. From what I've been told by contractors, the catastrophe guys are soooo much better than company employed adjusters. They're independent and brought in only when needed on a contract basis. They make money off of what they adjust, as a percentage, I think-- not whether they save the company money. In other words, it's in their interest to give you a new roof.

This helped explain the awesome adjustment we received when I realized that we'd been sent a catastrophe adjuster, though it's possible we just got lucky (history would suggest the former!).

Amalie, Thank you so much for your comment. I can't tell you how much better that makes me and my husband feel. If your "history" is anything like mine, I too am praying for the former and not depending on "luck" to play in any part of this scenario.
