Battle of the sexes

Progress on our roof has come to somewhat of a halt...and not because of insurance woes. Instead it is due to my husband and I not seeing eye-to-eye on what shingles we should use on the roof.

I thought I had made up my mind until my roofer showed up with one more example for me to look at. It was love at first sight. But, like most love-at-first-sight stories go, time goes by and you start questioning your decision - you see the bigger picture and you start asking yourself whether or not this is really the right fit for you (or the house in this case).

When my roofer brought over the board below, I really believed this was the roof for us. I loved the large shingles and the discoloration of each shingle. I loved that it came with a 50 year warranty and that no one else in our town had this roof.

Then, my husband and I packed up the kids and drove an hour away to see a house that had just had the same roof installed.
This is when the battle ensued. He loved the roof and I did not. I tried to convince myself I just didn't like it on that particular house and that it was the brick clashing with the shingles that was setting me off. But the more I thought about it the more I was convinced that it was ALL of the colors that was setting me off. I don't want my house to look like a circus tent.

So, we need a mediator...do you think we should go with my original choice or the new one? If we go with the new choice they can begin work as early as next week (weather permitting); if we go with the original, the wait could be up to six weeks.

I've seen those same shingles in a solid color. Maybe that would help? I love the shape, not so much all of the color swirls.
